The Universe Smiles Upon You
Identity, packaging, environmental, poster design
This project is a study of Khruangbin’s debut album The Universe Smiles Upon You.
Stereogum’s Peter Helman describes the record as “something both groove-heavy and dreamy,” and evokes “the deep-in-the-wilderness.” Keeping that review in mind, I created a composite visual that resembles a psychedelic trip—always moving all the while adding more complexity.
Because of the record’s instrumental and psychedelic sound, I chose a less typographic approach, instead leaning on colors, shapes, and angles to emphasize the variety and build up of the music. I introduced icons and textures to capture the playfulness of the group and their work.
